- Switching to Irish VAT codes and reports after upgrading to QuickBooks 2008
My company is located in Ireland and I upgraded to QuickBooks 2008. How do I switch to using the Irish VAT codes and reports?
If you upgrade to QuickBooks 2008 from an earlier version, your upgraded company file will still contain the UK VAT codes and reports.
You can switch to the Irish VAT system and reports included in QuickBooks 2008.
-
In QuickBooks 2008, file your next VAT return immediately at the end of the VAT period.
-
Before you enter any new transactions, go to the Company menu and select Chart of Accounts. Check that the balance in the VAT Control account is 0.00.
-
If the balance in the VAT Control account is 0.00, go to the Lists menu and select VAT Code List.
You may want to rename the existing items to make sure you can identify them later. For example, right-click each VAT code and add the letter U in front of each one.
-
Go to the VAT menu and select Create Taxes...
-
Click to the left of Ireland (in the checkmark column).
-
Click OK
QuickBooks creates the VAT codes, VAT Items, and VAT Agency for Ireland. You can rename these codes if you want by right-clicking them and selecting Edit VAT Code.
Remember to also update your company address information.
-
Go to the Company menu and click Company Information.
-
Go to the Contact Information section, click the Country drop-down arrow and select Ireland.
Also update your Legal Address if appropriate.
-
Click OK.
