Error message: "Error -6510, -1004 : An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to access the company file"
This error can occur if there is damage in the data file.
-
Start QuickBooks without opening the data file by pressing and holding down the Ctrl key while double-clicking the QuickBooks icon. Keep holding the Ctrl key until the No Company Open screen is displayed.
-
To suppress all windows while opening your company file, press and hold down the Alt key and open your company file by double-clicking your company file from the No Company Open screen. (If you need to enter a login name and/or password, release the Alt key, type the login and password, and hold the Alt key again before clicking OK.)
-
Continue holding the Alt key until the QuickBooks menu bar appears.
-
Once the file is opened, use the following article to check for any data damage: How do I use the Verify Data utility?
Note: Make sure that company data file is located on the local computer. Do not rebuild your data file over the network.
If you are still unable to open the data file, and this is the first time trying to open the file in this version of QuickBooks, restore the backup file to the earlier version of QuickBooks and attempt to verify and rebuild the data file there before updating the file to the new version.
