How do I efile my VAT return with QuickBooks 2010?
With QuickBooks 2010 you can now efile your VAT return to HMRC!
To efile your return
- Go to the VAT menu and select File VAT.
- Click the File Return button.
- Select File Online.
- Enter your User ID, Password and Agent Type and click OK. You'll have received these when you registered with HMRC for online filing. For Agent Type, select Employer (if you are filing for your company) unless the return was prepared by someone other than the employer.
- QuickBooks then send an xml version of your return to HMRC. Unless you receive a rejection message, your return was filed successfully.
You can view the electronic receipts sent to HMRC by going to the VAT menu, selecting Prior VAT Returns.
If you owe money, QuickBooks creates a bill for the amount that is owing and opens the Bill Payment window. If you want to pay the bill later, select Pay Later. To see this bill again, click Pay Bills on the Home page.
If you have a refund, QuickBooks creates a receivable for the amount HMRC owes you and opens the Refund Window. If you want to wait till you actually receive the funds from HMRC, select Receive Later. To enter this refund later, click Receive Payments on the Home page.
QuickBooks is telling me my return is NOT ready to file. What do I do?
