Managing your VAT tasks using the Manage VAT window

The Manage VAT window was added in QuickBooks 2010. It pulls together all the tasks related to managing your VAT for you. Instead of having to go to different access points in your software to get at VAT features, now all you have to do is remember one window: the Manage VAT window.

The Manage VAT window is located under the VAT menu. From this window you can do the following tasks:
  • VAT accounts and payments - In this section, you can remit your VAT to the government, and run reports such as  the VAT 100, VAT detail andVAT Exception reports.

  • Make VAT Adjustments - Under VAT Adjustments, you'll see a list of links. These links are shortcuts to tasks to help you make adjustments fot the VAT you owe.

  • VAT codes and rates - Here you can see a graphical view of how your VAT sales and purchase items are set up. Double-click on an entry in the tables, and you'll be able to edit the VAT  item.

  • Change your VAT setup
    • Click the Change VAT Setup button to open the VAT Code Setup Wizard. This wizard steps you through the most common situations that require you to change your VAT setting such as adding VAT for a different country, updating an existing VAT code when the rate changes, or adding a new tax or tax agency (such as a tax administered by an agency other than HMRC).

    • Click Assign VAT Codes to change your VAT codes assigned to items, suppliers and customers.
